One Star Review Thursday

Yes, it’s a new weekly idea of posting a bad review for different nouns (i.e. movies, hotels, restaurants, websites, etc…). None of the reviews will show people’s full names or any of the businesses involved. We do not want to be sued due to a very non-existent legal team.

“Go with low expectations and you’ll only be a little disappointed!”

“We recently stayed at the ***** (August 2012), which was named the ***** when we booked and on all our documentation. We needed accommodation which was suitable for myself, my dad and my two daughters so this suited us as they provide a two bed, two bath, with sofa bed in the living area.

However, upon arrival, the spare bedding for the sofa bed was filthy and really smelly having been packed away by a previous guest and not checked by housekeeping (I imagine). I ended up taking the top sheet off the other two beds to make a clean sleeping area for myself. I noted that this was not changed for over a week and when it was, instead of the nice crisp white sheets used on the two proper beds, the sofa bed was dressed in old, damaged,

The room itself was very old and in desperate need of an update, the kitchen was basically chip board. However, it was the carpet that worried me the most. After a lovely shower (water power was good) I had to put my shoes back on as the carpet was absolutely FILTHY!!!! One day I forgot and I had to re-wash my feet as they were black. It was as if the carpet had never been vacuumed. My dad and I had decided we didn’t fancy driving in America, but this was ok as the hotel we chose offered a complimentary shuttle service to the Walt Disney Resort. My dad and I had decided we didn’t fancy driving in America, but this was ok as the hotel we chose offered a complimentary shuttle service to the Walt Disney Resort. This should be re-named a complimentary ‘cattle’ service – it was extremely over used, and really uncomfortable. The driver also decided which route to take to the hotels and so on the return journey sometimes it took 20 minutes and sometimes it took 45 minutes. It was so bad that I complained to the hotel reception staff one day and they were polite but really couldn’t have cared less about our experience saying other customers had also complained and they would pass it on to the bus company but as it was a ‘complimentary’ service you should be grateful!!!! The

The other problem was that the service only collected at 7.25am to take you to Disney and as breakfast started at 7am this was a real rush especially with children, plus the actual parks do not allow access to guests outside their own hotels until 9am so we were arriving with an hour to wait – terrible organization!! The return times to the hotel were 6pm, 7pm, and 10.30pm. Having two small children we went for the 6pm shuttle (11 hours in Disney was tiring enough) but actually getting on the shuttle was extremely stressful. There was no particular queueing system and so when the bus arrived to collect us it was a fight to get on. After 11 hours walking

There was no particular queueing system and so when the bus arrived to collect us it was a fight to get on. After 11 hours walking around a park which was very enjoyable but extremely exhausting the last thing I wanted, never mind my 63-year-old dad or 6-year-old daughter, was to stand for up to 45 minutes on a crammed bus to get back to our hotel. It was so bad on the day I actually complained that after that we started getting a taxi but that was expensive at about $40 a trip and wasn’t exactly factored into our holiday. The hotel staff seem to think that if something is ‘complimentary’ you have no room to complain and maybe this is the case in America,

It was so bad on the day I actually complained that after that we started getting a taxi but that was expensive at about $40 a trip and wasn’t exactly factored into our holiday. The hotel staff seem to think that if something is ‘complimentary’ you have no room to complain and maybe this is the case in America, however, when I stay at a hotel in the UK and use the ‘complimentary’ shampoo I expect my hair to be clean and not turn orange – is that not a fair expectation?

Getting back to the hotel – the breakfast was adequate, although not much in the range of healthy options and the plastic cutlery and polystyrene plates were not exactly inviting. However, if you look harder you will find proper plates and cutlery. In our room, the air conditioning was set to 24 degrees Fahrenheit (-4 degrees C) one day and the cleaning staff ALWAYS turned it down very low. I asked at reception for them to stop but they continued to do this,

I asked at reception for them to stop but they continued to do this, so in the end, we put a note on the dial to ask them to leave the temperature alone. As I was sleeping in the living area I didn’t want the aircon to wake me up as the fridge freezer was noisy enough. The pool was very small for the size of the hotel and whilst my two daughters really enjoyed it, I didn’t go in as it was always full of children at the times we were using it (6.30 -7.30pm).

We did not allow the hotel to spoil our experience of Orlando as it is a magical holiday, however, I would not recommend this hotel and when we return to Orlando we will be staying in the Disney Resort Hotels.”

Orlando, the home of never-ending family tragedies.  Hopefully Leanne has good luck on her next trip to the States. Stay tuned for next Thursday’s bad review.
